General Resistance resistors shown working in the Rhopoint M210 Milliohm Meter

Rhopoint Ltd was founded in 1975 with the aim to support engineers specialising in the design of electronics and product development by offering a selection of precision resistors to the UK market.

The Rhopoint name originates from two ideas. Firstly, the Greek letter ρ (pronounced rho). This is the symbol that represent electrical resistivity; the fundamental property of a material that quantifies how strongly it resists or conducts electrical current.

Secondly the word “point”, in the context of measurement, is defined as a definite measurable position in a scale, thereby signifying precision.

Hence the company was named Rhopoint to highlight our competence in the ever-evolving world of precision resistors. Incidentally, the first product we sold in 1975 was a high-precision wire-wound resistor from General Resistance. These products still represent part of our portfolio today, over 45 years later!

In 1997, the Rhopoint Ltd name was changed to Rhopoint Components Ltd. In the years to come, Rhopoint Components Ltd branched out, founding a sister company of Rhopoint Nordic ApS in 2006 to better support our Scandinavian customers. With orders still fulfilled and managed by Rhopoint Components Ltd. here in the UK, Rhopoint Nordic ApS, offers local representation and design in support for customers in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

Later, in 2021 Rhopoint Komponenten GmbH was launched to enhance the Rhopoint Components brand within the German market place. From their warehouse in Gaukönigshofen, Germany, just a few kilometres south of Wurzburg in Bavaria, they offer the majority of the Rhopoint Components Ltd product portfolio. Since it’s founding and working closely with us here in the UK, Rhopoint Komponenten GmbH has grown and is now responsible for most European customers excluding our Scandinavian customers.

In 2024, Rhopoint Components unified its European subsidiaries, Rhopoint Nordic and Rhopoint Komponenten, under the single name “Rhopoint Components.” This strategic consolidation reflects our commitment to simplifying customer interactions and enhancing service quality. By operating as a single entity, Rhopoint Components aims to streamline processes, expand our support capabilities, and provide a more cohesive experience for our valued customers across Europe.
